Awakening

Dormant in the ground it lay
Never realising what it could be
Not yet seeing the light of day
Not knowing of it's destiny

The beauty of winter lay all around
The sunlight caressing the snow
Silence reigns, there exists no sound
As the cold breeze begins to blow

Within the bed, slumber escapes
While everything around is in dreams
The eyes open, a heart awakes
A new life is born it seems

Small hands reach out, eager for life
The desire within at a burn
Wanting to overcome pain and strife
Wishing to smile, needing to learn

The green bursts forth, kissing the sun
With no one around to see
While everyone sleeps, it wants to run
To shout, to sing, to be free.
